A couple of friends of mine were recently mugged in Rhodes park (Kensington, Johannesburg); they had a couple things - 2 cell phones and a wallet - taken from them at knife point.This is, no doubt, a terrible thing to have happen to anyone, and I did make a point of offering my sympathies - at first.

You see, my problem with the whole situation is that while I could understand them being upset by the ordeal (having your life threatened and belongings taken is never fun) I still found that the reaction of one of these friends was, to say the least, over the top.

Life happens and in spite of the fact that it’s happening can sometimes be unpleasant I still believe that one’s reaction to unpleasantness has to be proportionate to the level of unpleasantness experienced.
